The Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) is the largest association of AT companies in the world, with members in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. In 2010 the ATIA conducted a survey of developers (the broad range of web, software and hardware IT developers) to better understand the needs, issues and obstacles of incorporating accessibility into the development lifecycle. The survey identified critical needs, that when not addressed create barriers to accessibility becoming part of the development and business processes of all types of organizations. Areas such as testing, education, business case and resources are critical factors. We will also present recommendations on ways these issues could be resolved and bring accessibility into the IT development world on a level field with other technical priorities.
