The VICKIE project is a European project as part of the programme IST (Information Society Technologies) in accordance with the Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 December 1988 concerning the fifth framework programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities for the period 1998-2002. The tremendous development of the Information Society may have a decisive impact  on the social inclusion of visually handicapped people in providing new opportunities to access information and services that were traditionally out of their reach.

The main objective of VICKIE is to develop a technical solution for a better integration of the visually impaired pupils and students in the mainstream education.
